Syllabus
The eighth grade science course for the 2011-2012 school year will be an inquiry-activity-based approach with reinforcement in traditional methods. Emphasis will be placed on the student’s learning to apply manipulative skills to the scientific processes; to demonstrate higher order thinking skills; to use basic scientific skills such as observing, interpreting, classifying, measuring, communicating, predicting, inferring, and problem-solving; and to work with peers cooperatively. These skills will be learned as we study topics from the following areas:
Matter
Force and Motion
Work, Machines, and Energy
Atomic Structure and Periodic Table
Electricity
Waves, Sound, and Light
The curriculum will be based upon but not limited to the following:

SUPPLEMENTAL SCIENCE
TEXTBOOKS, AMSTI Modules,
S.T.E.M. Modules, and LTF Activities.
Grades will be a combination of group and individual projects, homework, class activities, tests, notebook checks, labs, and semester exams.

Graphing Composition books (1 per semester)
Calculator
Pencils
Black and red pens
Loose-leaf paper
1 ream of copy paper
